The music industry has had its fair share of tragedy over the last couple of decades with the loss of up and coming talented stars that would have probably changed the world with their music. These are the kind of artists who would have been icons today if the cruel hand of death had not come knocking a tad too early. Just a few months ago, Tim Bergling popularly known by his stage name Avicii was pronounced dead and the cause listed as suicide. News of his death rocked the entire music industry as he was considered one of the biggest names in electronic dance music.
At only 29, Avicii was not the first star whose journey was abruptly cut short by death. Other would have been legends that left us too soon include:
Tupac Shakur (25)
Going by the fact that his music still has an audience 24 years later, Tupac Shakur was on the road to stardom at the time of his death. He was also one of the most notable hip-hop legends known to address social issues through his platform. Musician activists are such a rarity today which goes to prove that his death was indeed our loss.
By age 17, this R&B songbird had already gone double-platinum with her music. At a time when R&B was starting to catch on she had set herself apart as one of the voices to look out for. An unfortunate plane crash in the year 2000 changed all that. Her music, however, still lives on.
Kurt Cobain (27)
In him the world of rock lost a legend. He was a trend setter in the 80s and early 90s with his music connecting with an outrageous number of teenagers in that time. He was the face of the band Nirvana but this came to an abrupt end because in 1994 he shot himself in the head in his home.
Selena Quintanilla (23)
It is no easy feat for Latin artists of any genre to cross over into the United States and get recognition for their musical talent. Selena, as she was popularly known, did this way back when. The rising star was shining too bright having landed her first recording deal at a tender age of 12. With fame and money came deceitful friends and one of them, who skimmed money from her fashion line literally shot her in the back. Selena did not survive this incident.
The Notorious B.I.G (24)
When one mentions Tupac Shakur there is no much choice but to mention Biggie as well. This is because of the nasty beef that the two artists had in the course of their careers. This beef was so bad Biggie was rumored to be involved in Pac’s death, of course he denied. Outside of this mess, Biggie’s music career was flourishing. This was not for long as his life was cut short when his entourage was shot up in Los Angeles.
Even more talented musicians have died just when their careers were gaining strides. Amy Winehouse, Heath Ledger, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, the list is endless. While all these artists died too young, their music still lives on and that is proof enough that if they had lived a little longer, their fans would have savored even more quality records.
