Favourite Songs Of Summer 2018

As August is coming to a close, we are getting closer and closer to the end of summer. It’s a shame, but over the past few months, there have certainly been some fantastic music. Below is but some of the music that we’ve enjoyed over the summer and we will surely be listening to for months to come.

“I Like It” – Cardi B ft. Bad Bunny & J Balvin

As Latin music has become more and more popular over the years, one thing is clear: the summer is where it thrives the most. Last year we had “Despacito”, this year we get “I Like It”. Cardi B has put together an amazing song thanks to the infectious collab she had with both Bad Bunny and J Balvin. As a result, her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, was a hit and she has literally made history as the first female rapper to score not one but two number one songs.

“Nice for What” – Drake

In 2016, Drizzy dominated the summer charts with the hit “One Dance”. This year he reclaimed that crown with the “for the ladies” anthem from this song. You can’t stop yourself from dancing after you hear the Lauryn Hill sample.

“Boys” – Lizzo

Lizzo also took a page from Drake and opted for a ladies’ anthem. Though her approach was bouncier, sassier, raunchier, and even more sexually liberating, it certainly was a hit. This track isn’t only for the ladies out there. It also celebrates all the other people out there. As Lizzo says “from the playboys to the gay boys.”

“Boo’d Up” – Ella Mai

Rising star Ella Mai has yet to put a debut album out and yet she boasts a certified-platinum summer hit. This R&B love song was launched last year in February but this track has proven it can stand the test of time as it’s still steadily climbing up in popularity.

“WTP” – Teyana Taylor

The album Taylor launched with this song is already full of great R&B bangers, not to mention them being sultry. But out of the entire album, this one takes the cake as WTP provides an explosive final track to bring out the inner queen. This song was primarily inspired by Harlem Ballroom which is why you’ll hear some parts from Mykki Blanco along with snippets from Paris Is Burning. This is literally a song fitting fro voguing.

“Plug Walk” – Rich the Kid

Born in Queens, bred in Atlanta, this rapper was on a heavy rotation thanks to this piece being filled with so many innuendos. “Plug Walk” marks one of the most popular solo tracks out there which has been a long time coming from a Migos collaborator. Because of this, this track is bound to linger on a lot of late-night summer playlists.

“Lemon (Drake Remix)” – N.E.R.D. ft. Rihanna & Drake

The last time the duo teamed up they took over airwaves in summer 2016 thanks to the hit “Work”. They could certainly pull off something similar to that thanks to the help of this song. Especially since Pharrell’s production is involved on this too.
